and symbols belong to the Computer Modern family of type\-faces
developed by the author using the
\hbox{\:L METAFONT}
system for alphabet design. The Chinese characters in the index
were designed by Tung Yun Mei using his {\:m LCCD} system.
The paper is S.↔D. Warren Text, basis 50 lb.\ (pH 7.8), which has
a life expectancy of several hundred years. The offset printing
and sewn binding were done at the Maple Press in Manchester,
